Our Group looks at recent discoveries of archaeological interest.

We are a friendly group of non-archaeologists who are interested in archaeology. Our shared learning approach means that group members shape the content of our meetings, with contributions that come in many forms, all of which add to the mix.

Contributions can be as simple as a newspaper clipping with a piece of interesting archaeological news that creates discussion. Sometimes members bring along an object of archaeological interest to be shown on a large screen or just handed round. Some members choose to do slightly longer presentations with illustrations shown on a large screen. The one thing contributions have in common is that it is the member’s interest in the topic that brings it to life for us all, be it a 3 minute snap-shot of some breaking archaeological news, or a 20 minute, more in depth look at a topic.

During the warmer months we sometimes visit an archaeological site and have an annual social 'Big Dig' where we do a mini test dig in a member’s garden and replace as it was afterwards! In June 2026 we dug in a garden on the outskirts of central Shoreham and found two 70+ million year old sea-urchin fossils as well as lots of evidence of more recent human activity.
